Friday July 2, 6-8 pm, $35/ticket: A Taste of Sharon “Let Them Eat Cake” Cocktail Party
If summer puts your sweet tooth into a tailspin, you won’t want to miss the delightfully down-home “Let Them Eat Cake” cocktail party that kicks off two days of celebrating in Sharon. Not only does this year’s Sharon Historical Society summer celebration feature all the best fresh and tasty tidbits of the season, guests will have the opportunity to become “bidders” as the action heats up for the live and silent CAKE auctions! Cakes have been donated by 30 Sharon friends and residents, running the epicure gamut from “July 4th Cake”, a banana cake with cream cheese frosting and summer fruit, an original compilation from the Barefoot Contessa and The Joy of Cooking; a touch of Bavaria with German Chocolate cake; Chocolate Raspberry Cake from the pages of Bon Appetit, and a bit of tropical flare with a coconut layer cake. There are cakes by well-know local bakers, including Patsy Stroble, and cakes that celebrate Sharon, such as Lynn Kearcher’s “Ode to Mudge Pond”. While many of the cakes will be featured in the live auction, some with be paired with a “Sharon Treasure” in the silent auction. Treasures include some classic blue Jasperware, a lovely watercolor painting, a guided trip for 4 to the top of the Sharon Clock Tower, and a sleep over for 6 girls at the Sharon Historical Society! The party will be held on the grounds of the museum at 18 Main Street in Sharon.
Tickets to the party are $35 per person, and should be purchased in advance. Call 860-364-5688 or e-mail sharonhistoricalsociety@yahoo.com for information or reservations.
As in years past, this event is catered by The Sharon Day Care Center and half the proceeds from tickets sales support the activities of the center.
Saturday July 3, 10-4, Open House on Sharon Green, FREE Entry to Public Buildings and Activities, $20 ticket to tour 6 private homes
On Saturday July 3, between 10 and 4 pm, enjoy an Open House on Sharon’s historic Green. Give your weekend guests a real taste of the best Sharon has to offer by bringing a blanket and staking out your spot on the historic Sharon Green. Great food will be available courtesy of the Sharon Fire Department, and there will be plenty of family friendly activities with Scott Heth from Audubon Sharon, and scavenger hunts on the Green. When you’re tired of lounging, visit the three churches on the Green, the Hotchkiss Library, and the Sharon Historical Society where visitors can view the exhibit, “A Pictorial History of the Sharon Green” curated by the Sharon Green Preservation Association who will also present guided tours of the Green’s trees at 11 and 2 (meet at the Town Hall.) For a $20 ticket visitors can tour six of the historic private homes located on the Green. Purchase your ticket in advance and receive a printed tour map, or take your tour using your smart phone.
More events and activities are being added each day, so visit our website www.sharonhist.org for up-to-date information. For advance tickets call the Historical Society at 860-364-5688 or e-mail sharonhistoricalsociety@yahoo.com. This event is designed to celebrate Sharon’s beautiful Green and to help encourage use of the Green as a center of community activity.
